Join us Sep 30 for live bluegrass music direct from Appalachia — plus delicious homemade food.
We welcome trailblazing musician Sam Gleaves, who has received rave reviews from NPR, the UK’s Guardian, and more. NPR hails him as “a Virginia-born, Kentucky-dwelling, 20-something, Appalachian picker, whose vignettes of blue-collar, mountain resilience often have queer protagonists.” Sam will bring a full band, featuring Deborah Payne and Tyler Hughes.
Deborah is a fiddler and singer from Berea, Kentucky who maintains folk traditions by playing for dances, leading children’s dance, and teaching music. She has toured domestically and internationally with the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble, CaneBreak, Sugar Tree, and the Kentucky Sunshine Quartet. She recently appeared in the folk opera “In These Fields.”
Tyler is an old-time and country musician, dance caller, and educator from Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies from East Tennessee State University, and has appeared on PBS’ Song of the Mountains, on NPR’s Mountain Stage, at Jazz at the Lincoln Center, and at the historic Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia.
The band will have fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass, and gorgeous three-part harmony. We’re lucky to have them for their first California performance.
We’ll have homemade BBQ, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks for sale. Plus, there will be games, a silent auction, and more in our beautiful garden and building overlooking the bay. Join us for this one-of-a-kind event.. Tickets are $20 — but for a limited time, you can order tickets for the discounted price of only $15.
